History and opportunities for participation
Forestville Academy is a newly created charter school for grades 4-8. We are still part of the Forestville Unified School District, K-8. We are still part of the Forestville tradition of high academic standards in a supportive and caring environment. The movement for chartering the 4-8 grades was a collaboration between parents, teachers, and administrators. The idea behind this movement was to bring in innovative programs that charter schools allow as well as bring back some of our outstanding programs. Forestville Academy became a charter school in July of 2006. Our new Academy Principal, Ms. Talin Tamzarian, was also hired at that time.
In an effort to continue the collaboration between parents, teachers, and administrators, the Forestville Academy Advisory Committee (FAAC) was formed. This group consists of elected parent representatives for each of the 4-8 grades, one K-3 representative, and teacher representatives from each grade level. The Academy Principal facilitates the meetings and Board of Trustee members also participate in the discussions. The FAAC has had a particular interest in increasing art integration into the curriculum as well expanding and enriching the electives offered at the Middle-School level.
The general public is invited to attend meetings. Parents can express their opinions and make suggestions about the direction of the Academy by working through their parent representative. Please e-mail the Academy secretary, Fran Oliver, for a list of parent representatives or are interested in volunteering.
Forestville Academy offers a rigorous standards-based program. Students are exposed to project-based learning as well as meaningful experiences outside of the classroom to enrich the curriculum. Teachers design lessons and use differentiated instructional strategies to reach each child’s unique learning style.
